Gente Ambiente y Territorio (GAT), Paraguay

Gente Ambiente y Territorio (People Environment & Territory) is a Paraguayan interdisciplinary non-profit. GAT contributes to initiatives that favor the sustainability and appreciation of natural, cultural, and relations among the various actors, and cooperates with the promotion of the autonomy of indigenous peoples. They have also been instrumental in assisting the Ayoreos, a previously and still largely uncontacted tribe, living in the Paraguayan Chaco, in asserting their legal land rights amidst devasting deforestation. The GATs pressure on the IACHR has led to the establishment of a year-long series of monthly talks between Ayoreo leaders and Paraguayan government officials.
